Board friction (BF) and stop brakes (ST) are used to transfer torque to the on-board gearbox, making turns and stopping the bulldozer. The on-board friction and stop brake are made in the form of a separate unit, which is connected with the on-board reducer and together with it is installed in the bore of the bulldozer frame housing. Interchangeable disc friction elements are used in the brakes and frictions, each package consists of eight ceramic-metal and seven steel discs.
When the diesel engine is stopped, i.e. when there is no oil pressure, the friction elements of the BF are open, and the elements of the OT are closed under the action of disc springs. The on-board gearbox consists of two jointly machined housings.
The torque is transmitted from the transmission unit to the on-board gearbox by two torsion shafts.
